File

A 32-year-old hitman and the woman who hired him to kill her estranged husband were both jailed for life in the High Court in Gqeberha.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said hitman, Masixole Nyaba and Ntombizodwa Solwandle were sentenced on Tuesday for the murder of Mnoneleli Solwandle in Booysens Park in January 2020.

She said the 42-year-old woman, who was separated from her husband, had taken out several policies on his life.

Naidu said a friend of Solwandle who had arranged the hitman was murdered in his Zwide flat in 2021.

She said Nyaba was also sentenced to a total of 17 years for the possession of a firearm and ammunition which will run concurrently with the life sentence.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major-General Vuyisile Ncata has welcomed the sentence.
