Gqeberha cop in court for allegedly tampering with evidence

File

A police officer who allegedly tampered with evidence appeared in the Gqeberha Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Andile Nosana is accused of attempting to weaken the state's case in a drug-related case.

He appeared in court alongside co-accused Lindsay Felix, Peter Baadjies, and Bernes Baartez.

The three have been charged with corruption, in that they allegedly offered him R4 600 to ultimately have the charges dropped.

This case in question pertains to a drug bust in March 2016.

All of the accused have pleaded not guilty.

A trial within a trial is underway to determine whether intercepted phone calls and bank statements obtained by the police to charge the accused, can be used as evidence against them in court.

The hearing continues.
