A Gqeberha-based Home Affairs employee was found guilty of fraud and contravention of the Identification Act in the local magistrates court.
Tony Stout (31), who was stationed at the Cleary Park branch fraudulently used identity details of South African citizens to alter the photos of foreign nationals who applied for SA passports.
According to the Hawks spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, this was discovered during National Operation after a resident from KwaZulu Natal complained.
Stout was arrested on the 26 March 2021, and pleaded guilty to the charges.
"He is out on warning and will be sentenced on Friday the 31 May," Mgolodela said.
