Police have recovered a delivery truck which was hijacked near Port Alfred, and also found the goods which were stolen from it.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart said the truck was en route to East London when it was hijacked on Wednesday night by six armed suspects. They were in a car and forced the truck off the road.
The driver was pushed into the suspects' car and dropped off in the main road of Despatch later. They drove the truck to Hankey, where they offloaded the goods at an address in Splinter Street, and then drove the empty vehicle to Rocklands Road, near Uitenhage, where they abandoned the truck.
Swart said several boxes containing biscuits, coffee, chips, and the like, worth more than R750,000 were recovered by the police in Hankey. No-one has been arrested.
Newly appointed Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John le Bok, commended the team for the successful recovery of the stolen property.
