The Uitenhage SPCA has confiscated a bakkie-load of goats at the Boardwalk entertainment complex in Port Elizabeth.
The SPCA was alerted to the plight of the animals by AlgoaFM staff member Carol-Anne Kelleher, who saw them crammed into the back of the vehicle when she arrived for work just before seven o'clock on Tuesday morning.
Kelleher says there was a tarpaulin cover over the top of the bakkie-railing which further added to the animals' distress as they had very little air and room in which to move.
Kelleher says Boardwalk security told her that the bakkie had been in the car park since 1am.
She says the goats had been in that dire situation for more than seven hours with no water and no food. She says the animals were then confiscated.
Uitenhage SPCA Animal inspector Mariaan Wentzel told AlgoaFM News that there were 13 goats crammed into the back of the bakkie.
She says they were destined for traditional slaughter in Korsten.
