The George Municipality said it is preparing to roll out phase 4 of the GO GEORGE bus service to Thembalethu Township.
Go George manager, James Robb, said in a statement Tuesday that the "trial drives through Thembalethu will take place from 2 - 13 November 2015 and would be supported and monitored by local law enforcement agencies, including the SA Police Service and provincial traffic department.
"During these drives, undertaken in the blue and green branded buses, the time it takes to complete the various proposed routes by bus will be established, while the roads in the area will be checked to see if they are wide enough and can handle the weight of the three different types of buses (the standard, midi- and minibus) used by GO GEORGE," he said.
According to Robb a final roll-out date has not yet been established, "but by conducting these surveys timeously, we will be ready operationally to get the wheels rolling as soon as the date is announced."
"We know the residents in those areas are anxiously awaiting the bus service and want to limit unnecessary delays," said Robb.
He said "all taxi associations operating in the affected area will be notified that these activities taking place from 2nd - 13th November are tests only.
In August disgruntled taxi operators were blamed for torching several Go George buses causing millions of rands in damage.
Taxi associations had been demanding that the entire George Integrated Public Transport Network be renegotiated.
