Two young women pedestrians were critically injured and are fighting for their lives in hospital after being struck by a car in Humewood, Port Elizabeth, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police captain Johan Rheeder says the girls are 16 and 18 years old.
Rheeder says the 27 year-old driver of the car that hit the girls was arrested a few kilometres from the scene.
It does not appear that he stopped at the scene of the accident but drove on before being apprehended.
Rheeder says the man is being held in custody and will appear in court on Monday on a charge of reckless driving.
Meanwhile: The Grahamstown Cluster is investigating a case of culpable homicide following the discovery of the body of a man on the N2 near Coombs in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to information received, the victim, in his late 20s, was earlier dropped off at the stop and go by an unknown vehicle.
The victim who was inebriated stated to the worker at the stop and go that he was on his way home to Petersburg.
He proceeded on foot in the direction of Peddie.
A short while later a motorist who was travelling from Peddie towards Grahamstown stopped at the stop and go and informed the worker that there was the body of a man lying in the road.
On investigation the worker confirmed that it was the same individual they had met earlier.
Captain Mali Govender says anyone who may be able to identify the deceased is asked to contact the Grahamstown police.
Its unclear at this stage if he was the victim of a crime or a hit and run road accident.
