Gigaba maintains there was nothing wrong visiting with the Gupta's

Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba on Tuesday maintained that the Gupta family did not receive any favours from himself or his department to gain early naturalisation.

He said there was no evidence of a corrupt relationship.

The now former Minister of Finance Nhlanla Nene resigned from his position following his testimony at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, when it came to light that he visited the Gupta's at their Saxonworld home several times, even though he denied this in the past.

Gigaba, on the other hand, said it was normal for him to interact with the family as he interacted with other businessmen as well.

He said he was invited to two Diwali functions and conceded that he visited their family home in Johannesburg "probably five times".

The minister of Home Affairs is being linked to a massive rent-seeking scandal believed to have cost the National purse billions of rands.

Gigaba declined to say whether any other Cabinet members were present, saying it was straying beyond the purpose of the inquiry into the naturalisation of the family.
