George Municipality says its engaged in a war against the illegal dumping and burning of tyres.
The Municipality said on Thursday that it spent over R9-million last year to clean up neighbourhoods.
Rassie de Villiers, the George Municipality's portfolio councillor for Environmental Services and Sport, says they're appealing to the public to report illegal dumping of waste and tyres.
“We encourage members of the public to come forward and to report illegal dumping of waste and tyres. The Council of George needs your assistance - take ownership of your environment - provide detailed feedback with photographs to our law enforcement officers to enable them to prosecute and stop illegal dumping in George." says de Villiers.
He says security has been stepped up at the municipal dump which does not accept tyres at all.
De Villiers says used tyres are collected by subcontractors in George and transported to Redisa in Mossel Bay for recycling.
