George Municipality says it will meet workers this week following unprotected action by some members of the SA Municipal Worker Union on Monday morning.
In a brief statement, George Municipality said that during a meeting SAMWU was requested to follow proper channels.
It was also agreed that a second meeting will be held this week to continue the discussions on the issues raised by the George Municipality workers.
Algoa FM News spoke to George Herald reporter, Myrone Rabinowitz, who said workers had occupied the municipal offices for a period in the morning.
He says they presented two issues to the Municipality, the first being their unhappiness with the disbandment of a task team evaluating the positions of the workers.
Rabinowitz says the second issued related to the permanent appointment of temporary workers.
"One hundred and fourty one workers were on a casual basis at the George Municipality and they took them to the Labour court and they won the arbitration".
According to the workers they were supposed to be employed permanently on the 1st of December 2016. The workers say the instruction was not carried out, which they believed was signed by the municipal manager.
