George Municipality says it has been working together with other municipalities in the Eden District as well as the Western Cape Provincial Government and other sectors to formulate electrical contingency plans in the unlikely event of a complete blackout.
It says in a statement these plans consider the effect of short outages during normal load shedding and longer power outages that can occur in case of a total blackout for a number of days.
Regular meetings are held within the municipality and all relevant departments are represented on the George Electrical Contingency Forum, chaired by Director for the Electro-technical Department, Kevin Grunewald.
The municipality says contingency plans for electricity supply, emergency services, water supply, sewerage networks, security, fuel and communication are included in the plan.
