A mother from George who allegedly brutally assaulted her two young sons and burned them with an iron, has been arrested.
The 31-year suspect was taken into custody days after the brutal incident and only after the 7-year-old child showed his injuries to his grandmother.
The woman allegedly assaulted her 10 year old and 7 year old children with a broomstick after which she hit the older boy with a brick on his head.
According to police, the mother then heated up an iron and burned both of her children. The one child was burned on his arm and the other on the left side of his body.
The mother also allegedly burned the children's hands on a stove.
A case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and child abuse was opened at the Conville police station, after the grandmother saw the injuries.
After the 7-year-old boy showed his injuries to his grandmother, a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm as well as a case of child abuse was open at the Conville police station.
The mother remains in custody until Monday when she will appear in the George Magistrate's Court.
