George man in court for alleged assault on toddler

 A 28-year-old man appeared in the Beaufort-West magistrates' court on Monday for allegedly assaulting his girlfriends toddler.

Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says he was remanded in custody and the matter was postponed until next week for the accused to obtain legal representation.

The two-year boy remains in a serious condition in a George hospital.

According to police the child had to undergo life-saving surgery following the attack late last week.
