Police in the Garden Route are investigating a case of fraud after a businessman in George was swindled out of his money during his lunch hour.
Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says a group of about five individuals, men and women, are roaming the streets of George pretending to be Vodacom employees.
He says they approached the businessman in Market Street on Tuesday and asked him if he had any queries with Vodacom before presenting him with pamphlets.
Captain Pojie says these suspects somehow got access to the victim's Banking App on his cellphone and before he even realised it, they transferred thousands of Rands from his account into theirs.
He says by the time the complainant realised he was scammed, the suspects were long gone.
Police are now scrutinising video footage in an effort to identify and apprehend the suspect.
Locals have been warned not to fall prey to these scams.
