George Acting Deputy Mayor remains focused on service delivery

The Acting Executive Mayor of George, Charlotte Clarke, gave assurance that her focus will be on maintaining stability in the municipality.

Clarke took over the reigns of the Municipality after Executive Mayor Melvin Naik went on leave amid an investigation into alleged tender irregularities by the Hawks.

They raided the Municipality's offices last month, as part of a probe ordered by the Democratic Alliance.

The investigation relates to procurement processes and the awarding of tenders.

In a statement today, Acting mayor Clarke said that George administration remained positive and committed to maintaining the service delivery standards that the residents of George have come to expect.

She included residents of Wilderness, Uniondale and Haarlem in her message.

"I would like to assure all of the communities of George including Wilderness, Uniondale, and Haarlem that my focus and that of the Council of George is to maintain stability during this tumultuous period. The administration remains positive and committed at this time to maintain the service delivery standards that the public of George expects," she said.

Naik will be on leave until the 25th May.
