Activists against Gender-Based Violence marched to the City Hall in Gqeberha on Wednesday in support of the murdered Ayanda Dupa-Emenaha and her family.
The 35-year-old's body was burnt beyond recognition and dumped in the bushes on the old Coega Road in June.
Gqeberha police identified her by her fingerprints when the body was found.
The deceased, who worked at the harbour, went missing after dropping off a co-worker in Rink Street.
Dupa-Emenaha indicated to her friend that she was first making a stop at Westbourne Road in Central, before going home.
Asonele Melapi of the Nokwanda Patocka Foundation, who led the march, said more needs to be done to fight the scourge of gender-based violence in South Africa.
She handed over a petition to a representative from Speaker Eugene Johnson's office.
"We are here to stand for the rights of women at large and to assist law enforcement to understand what we need from them to protect us as women in this country.
"There is a need for more visible policing. If they claim that they are understaffed they need to merge resources to protect the vulnerable.
"We want to speak for those who cannot do it for themselves and we want to see change within our communities," she said.
The circumstances surrounding the murder are still unknown at this stage.
A memorial service for Dupa-Emenaha for was also held at City Hall on Wednesday.
