A man has been attacked by a shark at Sandstrand near Stilbaai.
The National Sea Rescue Institute says police responded to the scene on Friday, where the victim was found on the beach suffering two serious wounds to his left upper leg and knee with serious blood loss.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says 29-year-old Jacque Mostert from Centurion was conscious.
He says NSRI medics and a local doctor treated Mostert at the scene, before he was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Lambinon says Mostert was surfing with friends when he was attecked.
He says initial estimates, based on eyewitness accounts, and from the bite marks, they estimate the shark to have been between four and 4.5 metres, but the species of shark is not yet confirmed.
