He said police were informed that a 26-year-old passenger who was due to fly to Johannesburg had allegedly claimed to have a bomb in his luggage while checking in.
Marais said the "East London K-9 unit as well as the bomb disposal unit went out to the scene."
"They searched the luggage but it all revealed to be negative. The 26-year-old male who is a trainee accountant from Midrand is due to appear in the East London Magistrate's Court on Monday.
He has been charged under the Explosives Act," said Marais.
