Garden Route fire fighters were kept busy Friday, battling at least three veld fires in Brandwag, Boland Park and in the Little Brak River area.
The first fire was reported on a farm near Brandwag which authorities said spread in the direction of Little Brak River.
At one point on Friday traffic officials closed the R328 in the direction of Oudtshoorn because of poor visibility.
Mossel Bay Provincial Traffic chief, Reinet Sarikakis, said shortly after the Brandwag fire was reported, firefighters had to be deployed to Boland Park near Mossel Bay where another fire broke out, threatening properties. No damage was reported.
Sarikikas said a third fire which broke out near Oudtshoorn close to Meiringspoort was being monitoried.
Traffic officials and firefighting teams will be on alert Friday night as the South African Weather Service predicted strong winds from Cape Agulas to the Plettenberg Bay area for Saturday.
