A 32-year-old man from Gansbaai is expected to appear in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday following his arrest this week for possession of abalone.
Spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies says his arrest follows a joint response by members of SAPS, SANPARKS and local security.
He says rangers noticed a suspicious Volkswagen Amarok vehicle near The Crags on Tuesday and when members approached the suspects ran away, abandoning their vehicle.
Spies says police gave chase and apprehended one suspect.
Upon further investigation, they found bags of perlemoen dumped in the bushes.
The 565 units of abalone have a street value of R100 000.
Police also confiscated the vehicle and are still searching for the other suspects.
