Port Elizabeth's Gang Task Team has taken over the investigation into Thursday's murder of Malabar businessman, Naiem Desai.
The 47-year-old was shot outside a spaza shop in Helenvale while making a bread delivery.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says Desai's co-workers, who were in the shop at the time, heard gunshots and rushed outside.
She says they saw four men fleeing the scene.
Janse Van Rensburg says Desai's firearm and cellphone were stolen.
She says the gang task team has now taken over the investigation.
