Eastern Cape Police are investigating a case of house robbery and assault after five men stormed into a log cabin house in Mauritzkraal near the river slipway on the Gamtoos River on Thursday.

Sergeant Majola Nkohli says the gang stormed into the house and severely assaulted the homeowner with a steel pole and tied her up.

Sergeant Nkohli says 66-year-old Wilma van Rooyen woman eventually managed to free herself and raise the alarm.

At this stage, her firearm and two cellphones are missing.

Sergeant Nkohli said Van Rooyen had been admitted to hospital in Port Elizabeth and that due to her injuries, police had yet to obtain a statement from her.
