A G4S security guard is due to appear before the Port St Johns Magistrates' Court on Monday on allegations of carjacking and kidnapping.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana says two guards were driving a Toyota Etios in Libode servicing Capitec ATM's when a Volkswagen Polo bumped their vehicle.
He says when the guards got out to check the damage, a white Toyota Fortuner appeared with armed men inside who instructed the guards to lie down.
The men were disarmed and balaclavas placed over their heads, before they were kidnapped and dropped off near the Ngqeleni forest.
WO Mhlakuvana says police were informed, and a chase ensued. After that, the suspects abandoned their vehicle and tried to flee on foot.
He says one 40-year-old suspect was arrested.
It has since been established that he is currently employed by G4S Cash solutions based in Gauteng.
