Fraudsters selling SASSA cards on social media

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has issued a warning to beneficiaries to not fall victim to the latest social media scam.

Spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi says they are working with the police to track down a man who is advertising the sale of SASSA cards on Facebook.

All roleplayers including the Post Office are currently working with police to follow up all leads and find the mastermind behind the scam.

Letsatsi says the stolen cards, sold for different amounts, were immediately deactivated and are worthless.

He added that no grants could be drawn from these cards.

SASSA services are free and not for sale.

Beneficiaries should call SASSA on 0800601011 whenever they are offered any service relating to social grants for money no matter how little the charge could be.

SASSA is not involved in any other business except the payment of social grants.
