Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu provided an update on Sunday and said it's alleged that at about 07:24 on Saturday morning, the driver of a Toyota Yaris lost control of the vehicle, smashed into a concrete pole, somersaulted, hit two pedestrians before coming to a halt.

She said the driver, John Tessner (36) from Kariega passed away on impact while a 51 year old pedestrian was also fatally wounded.

Another pedestrian , aged 50 years old was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

A video doing the rounds shows a vehicle going out of control and onto the pavement.
