The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit in the Eastern Cape and the Visible Gang Intervention Team have apprehended four wanted gang suspects in the Northern Areas of Nelson Mandela Bay.
The four aged between 17 and 24 were wanted on separate cases of murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and were arrested in the early hours of Friday morning.
The first two suspects, who are allegedly affiliated to the same gang, were arrested at a house in Deverill Street in Helenvale. They are also implicated in separate incidents of murder.
The third suspect, aged 18, was arrested in Kwanoxolo while the fourth suspect, a 17-year-old teenager, was arrested in Booysens Park.
They both face charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said police Information also led the team to Kamesh in Uitenhage where they found a firearm hidden under frozen meat in the kitchen of a house in Arcacia Street.
She said a total of 10 firearms have been recovered and several suspects arrested in the past week.
Colonel Naidu said that all these firearms will be sent to ballistics for analysis.
