Public Order Police are still present at the University Fort Hare campus in Alice where students have been protesting this past week.
Spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni says University management made the decision to send students home and re-open campus on the 2nd of September.
He says students are slowly trickling out of their dorm rooms, however, some are refusing to comply.
Earlier this week police arrested three male students after they allegedly looted the kitchen to steal chicken.
According to reports, the student protests began earlier this week over grievances with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, NSFAS.
