Fort Hare University is mourning the loss of a first-year student who drowned in a swimming pool at the Alice campus over the weekend.
University spokesperson, Thandi Maphukatha, said the 20-year-old man's body was discovered by fellow students in the pool on Saturday night.
She says while details around the incident remain sketchy, it is now in the hands of the Alice police.
The deceased who was from King William's Town was identified as Sibahle Mkiva who was a first-year Library and Information Science student.
