Fort Hare's Alice campus has not been closed by management following disruptive students protests that began on Friday.
The university obtained an interdict to stop students from further disrupting activities and vandalising property on Monday.
Last week, university management met student leaders to address a number of grievances relating to student accommodation, safety on campus and academic matters.
Twenty-one students were arrested after they blockaded the entrance to the Alice campus with burning tyres. They were later released on warning.
Vice chancellor, Dr Mvuyo Tom, says the institution is not closed but their hand may be forced if the protests continue.
"We have not closed the institution but I do want to alert the community at large and parents who are listening that if students do not stop what they are doing we might just reach that conclusion to send them home and make them come back with their parents and signs declarations when the come back to the institution. That is the only way we can bring some sense to the students now" Tom said.
