One of two young women, feared to be abducted while hitchiking to Fort Beaufort, was found unharmed on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, Grahamstown police requested the public to assist in their search for a car with four occupants.
Spokesperson, Capt. Mali Govender, says one of their parents received a text message that they had been abducted, and that there was a firearm in the vehicle.
Mali says the other woman is being held hostage in the Fort Beaufort area.
"The information from the female who made it back to safety in Grahamstown is that the woman is being held hostage. We are taking statements at the moment, while she was there they were talking about raping the woman then they left and went out into town. She managed to convince the abductor to please let her go." says Mali.
