Former Zambian football coach guilty of sexual assault, gets suspended sentence

File

Former Zambian football coach, Milutan Sredojevic, has been found guilty on two counts of sexually assaulting a 39-year-old woman during last year's Cosafa Cup Competition in Nelson Mandela Bay.

He was convicted in the Regional Court in Gqeberha on Tuesday on two counts following the incident at the Wolfson Stadium last December.

The National Prosecuting Authority said he was sentenced to three years on count one, which was wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not contravene section 5(2) of the Sexual offenses Act.

“This section entails sexual assault in the form of inspiring a belief unto the complainant that he or she will immediately be sexually assaulted,” said NPA Regional spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani.

She said Sredojevic was also sentenced to three years imprisonment on count two which was also wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not again contravene section 5(1) of the Sexual offenses Act.

“This section entails sexual assault in the form of touching a complainant.”

Ngcakani said Sredojevic was granted leave to appeal his conviction.
