The Hawks in the Eastern Cape said a former VWSA fleet administrator was found guilty of fraud amounting to R12 million in the Commercial Crimes Court in Gqeberha.
Spokesperson, Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, said 60-year-old Christo de Jager, was convicted on Monday on 595 counts of fraud committed between November 2014 and March 2021.
He was arrested last March and released on warning.
The Hawks said in an earlier statement that De Jager had used his position to hatch a scheme with an employee at a body repair company to do work for the company for which he was allegedly paid monthly for generating fraudulent invoices for the work.
Sentencing proceedings against De Jager will commence on the 22 May.
