Former PE radio presenter granted bail

A former Port Elizabeth community radio presenter (Bay FM)has been granted bail of R1 000 in the St Albans magistrates court.

Etienne Calitz made his first appearance on Tuesday morning for the possession of suspected stolen property to the value of R10 000.

The matter was postponed until the 22nd of July for further investigation

It is alleged that Calitz, a former MTN radio award winner in 2012, and two other suspects entered the building site at Bay West Mall outside the city on Sunday night, and loaded almost 1 ton of reinforced steel on a bakkie.

Police spokesperson, Captain Johan Rheeder says when the site manager arrived at the scene, two of the suspects ran away.

He says Calitz could not explain why the steel was loaded onto the vehicle.

He fled the scene in the bakkie, but was later pulled over by police in Samantha Way and arrested.

All the stolen steel was recovered.
