Former PE bookkeeper back in court on 90 counts of theft

A former bookkeeper at Port Elizabeth's Aurora Special Care Centre will make his second appearance in the Commercial Crimes Court in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.

The 44-year-old Johannes Gieselbach is accused of stealing over a million rand from the Centre and is facing a total of 90 counts of theft.

According to the state's charge sheet, Gieselbach stole the money from the Care Centre between 2016 and 2019.

It is alleged that he had substituted his own banking details with those of Aurora's creditors and or suppliers after another person had authorised the payments.

The State says this resulted in amounts totalling more than 1.2 million rand being paid into Gieselbach's bank accounts over this period.

Gieselbach is out on bail of R2 000.
