The United Democratic Movement has confirmed that its Nelson Mandela Bay councillor, Mongameli Bobani, has died.
UDM leader, Bantu Holomisa, said in a statement on Twitter that Bobani died at 17.50 on Wednesday due to Covid 19.
He was admitted to hospital about three weeks ago, suffering from shortness of breath after testing positive for the coronavirus.
“We commend councillor Bobani for the work he did for the people of Nelson Mandela Bay and his tireless efforts to grow the UDM in the Eastern Cape,” Holomisa said.
“He was always available and ready to roll up his sleeves, and we will miss his energy and enthusiasm,” the UDM leader added.
Tributes were also paid to Councillor Bobani on Twitter.
