Gqeberha police have detained the ex-husband for questioning following the disappearance of 57-year-old Desiree Baartman who was reported missing on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the 59-year-old man was detained by Bethelsdorp detectives over the weekend.
“It is alleged that the estranged couple lived together after their divorce and on the mentioned date, her husband reported her missing."
Naidu said SAPS forensic experts conducted “thorough” investigations at the house in Nagel Street in Bethelsdorp Extension 29 on Friday and Saturday for any evidence.
“Based on their preliminary analysis, the husband was detained for further questioning. A firearm was also confiscated,” she said.
Naidu said at this stage SAPS have opened an attempted murder case.
Meanwhile, she said police were still appealing to anyone who can assist in tracing Baartman or may know of her whereabouts, to contact Detective Warrant-Officer Ben Killian at Bethelsdorp SAPS on 072 342 7424 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.
