Former Eastern Cape Premier, Phumulo Masualle, has been included in the new cabinet announced on Wednesday night by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Masualle has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises, and will be working under Minister Pravin Gordhan, who is at the centre of a battle with the Public Protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkwebane.
Former Eastern Cape Speaker, Noxolo Kiviet, is also in Ramaphosa’s cabinet as the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure and will be working under Good Party leader, Patricia De Lille, whose inclusion in the cabinet came as a surprise.
Tito Mboweni is the Minister of Finance.
President Cyril Ramaphosa also announced that David Mabuza, the ANC’s deputy president, will be the country’s Deputy President.
In unveiling his cabinet, nearly an hour after the scheduled start, Ramaphosa said “these men and women we have appointed to the executive are drawn from all corners of our country.”
“For the first time in the history of our country, half of all Ministers are women. We have also included a significant number of young people,” President Ramaphosa said.
“This is in fulfilment of our commitment to giving young people roles of responsibility in all sectors of society,” he said.
