Former Buffalo City mayor Zukisa Faku has been sentenced to three years correctional supervision.
Faku was earlier found guilty of defrauding the Municipality of several thousand rand for using a Municipal credit card to purchase goods for her personal use.Magistrate Saadia Jacobs also ordered that Faku serve 16 hours of community service during her sentence.
In March Faku was found guilty on niine counts of fraud and theft. She used her Municipal credit card, while she was still Mayor, for private goods to the value of R14 000.During mitigation Faku said abusing the credit card was not her intention and that she is willing to pay a fine of R2 000.
She said she is responsible for a family of six, including her parents.
Faku is currently a member of Parliament in Cape Town.
Her lawyer will apply for leave to appeal.
