Former BCM Mayor's case postponed again

Former Buffalo City Mayor, Zukiswa Ncitha and her former Deputy, Temba Tinta, appeared at the East London Magistrates Court today.

The pair, along with 16 others, face charges related to their alleged role in Buffalo City's Mandela funeral funding scandal in December 2013.

The accused allegedly benefited from a tender of close to R6-million to arrange logistics for Nelson Mandela's funeral.

A year ago, Magistrate Sadia Jacobs ruled that the final charge sheet agrees with Section 84 of the Criminal Procedures Act, and that it had sufficient particulars for the accused to plead thereto.

The review application has been lodged at the Grahamstown High court. The case has been postponed to the 5th of September.

In a separate matter, the East London Magistrates Court forfeited bail today, for a man who allegedly murdered his mother in March.

Lundi Mhlaba was absent for a second time in court today.

Mhlaba allegedly stabbed his ill mother to death while she was in a hospital bed.

The 26-year-old's mother was discovered by nurses with stab wounds to the throat and stomach.

He was granted bail on the 17th of March.
