A 35-year-old man has been killed in a robbery while on the way to a bank at a Port Elizabeth shopping mall.
Police said the incident happened at around 13:00 on Monday when three men in a mini-bus were accosted by six men at a busy intersection on the corners of CJ Langenhoven Drive and Norvic Road.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Kieran Haroon, a foreign national, who died on the way to hospital after being wounded in the chest.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said that he and two other men had stopped at the traffic lights at the intersection when the assailants approached, three on either side of the vehicle.
She said one suspect opened the driver’s side door and demanded the money but when no one responded a shot was fired wounding Haroon.
“The passenger next to the deceased handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects fled on foot and the driver rushed the injured Haroon to a nearby hospital where he passed away,” she said.
Police are appealing to anyone who may information on the whereabouts of the suspects to contact Mount Road Police.
