Five people were killed in two separate road accidents on Eastern Cape roads since Friday evening.

Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell says in the first accident at around 8 pm on the N6 about 25 kilometres from Cathcart, four people were killed when a truck collided with a VW Polo.

He says four occupants were declared dead at the scene while two sustained serious injuries.

All four deceased were from the Polo.

Two people from the truck were taken to the Frontier Hospital with serious injuries.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, one person died in an accident on the N2 near Berlin.

Bramwell says the driver of a Toyota Avanza with 7 occupants, apparently fell asleep and the vehicle overturned.

He says one person died at the scene and six others, two women and four men, were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide.
