Five people were killed while five others sustained injuries in two accidents reported on Eastern Cape roads.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said it was "alleged that driving under the influence of alcohol was the main contributed factors for both accidents."
Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose said in a statement on Friday that the three people were killed when a Toyota Tazz with five occupants, collided with a truck on the R-63 road at Dimbaza near King Williams Town late on Thursday night.
He said three male passengers were killed while two others sustained injuries in the accident which occurred on a sharp bend.
Meanwhile, Binqose said two men were killed in the second accident reported in the early hours of Friday morning when a bakkie travelling from King Williams Town towards Stutterheim crashed on the R-346.
He said it was alleged that the driver of the double-cab lost control of the vehicle which hit a bridge and a tree, leaving two people dead.
Three injured passengers were rushed to a hospital.
Binqose said cases of culpable homicide were being investigated by the SA Police Service.
