Five people have been killed following a head-on collision between two vehicles on the R72 between Port Alfred and Bushman’s River.
Eastern Cape Transport Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said the accident occurred on Sunday evening shortly after 7 pm.
He said a Toyota Avanza with two occupants travelling from the direction of Alexandria collided with a VW Polo with three occupants, heading from the direction of Port Alfred.
Binqose said four people died at the scene, while the fifth victim died in hospital.
“Evidence of alcohol was found in both vehicles,” he said.
Binqose said SAPS will be investigating a case of culpable homicide.
