Five killed in accidents on Eastern Cape roads

At least five people, including two pedestrians, lost their lives in accidents on Eastern Cape roads over the weekend.

Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell says one person was killed, and one seriously injured, on the R-67 between Grahamstown and Port Alfred.

"It looked like a single vehicle lost control and hit a tree. Both occupants were trapped in the vehicle, and the injured person was rushed to Port Alfred Hospital", he said.

"In the second accident on Saturday evening, one person was killed and one slightly injured on the Addo Road, after a VW Golf and an Opel Corsa collided head-on", Bramwell said.

He said a third accident happened on the R-408 near Dutywa.

"Details of this accident are still sketchy, but one person was killed and several others injured", Bramwell said.

Two pedestrians were also killed on Saturday.

"One was on the N-2 between King William's Town and East London near Nahoon Dam, where a 40-year old male was fatally injured after he was hit by a car. Also on the N-2 between Peddie and Grahamstown, a male - age unknown - was also fatally hit by a car", Bramwell said.
