The provincial Gang Investigating Unit is investigating a case of murder after five people were shot and killed in Bethelsdorp on Saturday night.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the men were sitting in a shack in extension 33 when a group of armed men kicked the door down.
According to information given to police, the victims were each asked their names before being shot in the head.
Naidu says a fifth victim who was in an adjacent shack was dragged outside and shot.
The motive is unknown at this stage since not all victims are affiliated with gangs.
The victims were between the ages of 22 and 32 and their names will be released once their next of kin have been informed.
Police are appealing for information to assist them in this investigation.
