Port Elizabeth police have arrested five suspects for the rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl whose body was found last week in bushes between Gelvandale and Algoa Park.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, identified the young victim as Patronicia Jordaan of Kobus Road in Helenvale.
She said the first two suspects were arrested at a house in Old Stanford Road on Saturday morning and minutes later, three more were rounded up at houses in Bongo and Pienaar Streets.
“All the suspects have gang affiliations and are aged between 18-33. Further arrests are expected,” Naidu said.
She said it was alleged that Jordaan was allegedly in the accompany of 12 males at a house in Bongo Street where drugs were taken and she was allegedly gang-raped.
Naidu said everyone left the house at around 3 am on Wednesday morning and Jordaan was in the company of six males. Her body, with stab wounds, was discovered the following day.
The five suspects are due to appear in court on Monday on charges of rape and murder.
