Five arrested for crime spree in Lusikisiki

Lusikisiki Detectives and members of the Provincial Tracing Team have arrested five suspects on charges of business robbery and murder.

The men aged between 20 and 30 were arrested early on Thursday morning at Joe Slovo Park, Lusikisiki.

Captain Khaya Tonjeni said they'll appear in the Lusikisiki Magistrate's Court on Friday on charges of business robbery and murder following an incident at a local shop near Port St Johns, on Wednesday.

He said the drama began early Wednesday night when three men armed with firearms and knives robbed a shop in the Bukazi Administration Area.

Tonjeni said as the men fled they opened fire, wounding a customer while allegedly stabbing two others to death.

Captain Tonjeni said the same gang has been linked to the murder of a taxi driver who was stabbed to death on Wednesday in the Mpumaze Administrative Area near Flagstaff.

They'll appear in the Flagstaff Magistrates Court next Monday in connection with the murder and hi-jacking of the taxi driver.

Tonjeni said police are hot on the heels of a sixth suspect who is still at large.
