A Port Elizabeth taxi driver and his conductor were arrested alongside three other suspects following an armed robbery which took place in Newton Park on Monday.
Police also confiscated two firearms stolen from private security guards in PE.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says on Monday a security guard was approached by three armed men who robbed him of his loaded firearm.
The men fled in a Quantum mini-bus but an eagle-eyed member of the public noted the registration number which was passed on to the Cash-in-Transit and Hijacking Task Team.
Colonel Naidu says the investigation led them to the owner of the vehicle who lives in New Brighton, who confirmed that the Quantam was being used as a taxi.
The vehicle was then spotted Deal party where the driver and his conductor were questioned and detained.
Naidu says their information led them to a house where three more arrests were made and two firearms recovered.
The one was stolen in Monday's robbery and the other weapon, a Taurus 9mm, was stolen from an Atlas security guard in Korsten on the 2nd of May.
The suspects between the ages of 21 and 27 will appear in court soon on charges of the possession of firearms and ammunition.
Naidu says the 21-year-old taxi driver and his 36-year-old conductor will be charged with armed robbery.
