Two men, who were acting as guides for a group of fishermen taking part in a national competition, have been robbed at gunpoint Bluewater Bay beach in Port Elizabeth.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning during the Eastern Province leg of the South African Shore Angling Association's National competition.
Police spokesperson, Constable Mcedi Mbombo, confirmed that a case had been opened.
One of the men, Theo Herbst wanted to share his story so that he could warn others.
He told AlgoaFM news how he went down the stairs towards the beach to go and check on the fishermen he was assisting, when he saw two men casually walking.
"I did not think much of it, so I turned to walk back up the stairs. The next minute they were standing right next to me" Herbst said.
One of the suspects had a fireram and his accomplice an axe. They told Herbst that it was a robbery and threatened to shoot him if he did not hand over his belongings.
Herbst says they stole everything he had on him, including his backpack.
His friend, and fellow guide was robbed by the same pair moments later.
