A fisherman in his 50's has drowned near the Kowie River Mouth at Port Alfred.
The NSRI says it dispatched a volunteer sea rescue duty crew on Wednesday afternoon after receiving a report of a fisherman lost overboard from the commercial fishing boat HAWAI.
NSRI Port Alfred Station commander Juan Pretorius says when they arrived at the scene they found the body of a man floating near to the breakwater on the sea side of the river mouth.
He said it appeare that the commercial fishing boat had been broadsided by a wave while entering the Kowie river mouth and that the fisherman had been knocked overboard.
